had the pleasure of going down to delaware this memorial day weekend and on the way there, my family stopped to get seafood, as you do when visiting a beach town on the northeastern coast of the US. yummers. my meal consisted of two english muffins topped with curry-seasoned crab and a generous portion of yellow cheddar, accompanied with thick-cut well-salted potato fries (referred to as 'chips' on the menu), a small plastic cup of coleslaw, and a little paper bowl with around 8 hush puppies and a tiny pad of butter. there were also some chopped veggies on the side.
this meal was incredibly filling. i could not finish the whole thing. not including a picture because that's a lot of work but i do hope my words will illustrate this meal for you: there was a delightful, creamy pepperiness from the crab, along with a mellow kick from the melted cheese on top. i am not typically a fan of english muffins but in this case, the crab was so moist and flavorful that they were really necessary to provide somewhat of a tough base for the real meat of the meal to sit upon. i was also surprised that its butteriness cut into the combined harsh flavors of the curry crab and cheese well enough to balance out the entire meal.
now, the hush puppies - i typically prefer my hush puppies more spherical than pill-shaped and served with a side of sweet creamed cinnamon butter. these were neither -- long, about the length of two of my finger knuckles, and served with cold butter. however, my only concern with these laid in how difficult it was to really 'butter' them without a knife. the breading was not too thick and subtly salty, which paired well with a soft, fluffy, and most importantly moist interior. these bite sized accompaniments to my crab melt took my preference over the admittedly subpar french fries.
overall an 8/10 meal because the flavors felt repetitive at a certain point, but i don't think it was because they were lacking or anything - i might just have gotten overwhelmed with the portion sizing. LOL. and at $22 it was all well worth it tbh!
ok i've decided i'm going to stop forcing myself to affix an image to every single entry because editing everything is soooo much work and it's making me not want to write on this page despite it being super important to me. so whatever. no more pictures unless i really really want it. fuck you ('you' not being you, the reader, but rather my perfectionism needing everything to look JUST RIGHT. not everything has to be just right! that's the point of this page!)
anyway, when i'm home from school i really like getting the happy hour deal from the pizzeria by my house that consists of a large cheese slice and a can of soda for a whopping $4.50USD. this is a lot - i know a lot of places will say 'large' and really it's just a medium, but these slices are quite literally the length of my forearm and SFG (so-fucking-good) so it's all pretty much worth it. if i'm going to be honest, this is one of my safe foods purely because it's so delicious that i cannot even begin to think about calories when i am eating it. this is a thin, sizable, saucy New York-style pizza slice -- cheese molten on top, and sauce tangy, tomatoey, well-seasoned underneath. 10/10 every. single. time. for both my taste buds AND my wallet!!!!!!!!!!!
iced ube matcha latte with a buttery ube brownie and a slice of "bibingka," according to the bakery, but the bibingka was actually suman...? kind of weird, so i checked their site and it's ran by a white couple. whatever, it was still yummy though.
yummy yummy chicken katsu and omurice with thai iced tea that my boyfriend got me to celebrate a job offer! :) the people talking in the booth across from us were very loud, so we enjoyed eavesdropping and giggling. we ate mostly in silence because of this... very chismosa...!!!
Yummy cannoli and tiramisu. The cannoli is wrapped with a florentine cookie -- almond, basically -- rather than a usual cannoli cookie, so it's more delicate and sweet than a usual cannoli. I found that the filling was gentle enough to make eating it a pleasant experience, rather than overbearing. The tiramisu was a little less soft than I expected, but fine; nothing impressive. I'm not sure this specific pairing was good enough for the cost though ($16 USD). The cannoli was, but the tiramisu could have been better...
Valentine's day dinner with my sweetheart. We had all you can eat sushi and he paid. I ate a lot -- the last time I ate at this place it was for a work dinner, and I ate my share plus my coworkers' leftovers, so I was expecting to be able to do the same again this time. I don't think I was right; ended up overestimating myself. But it was so yummylicious. We had matcha and red bean ice cream to level out our meal. I was still hungry afterwards.
